QUILLIN Jean-Charles, painting

I paint because my dreams are imperfect. And I have only the moment to contradict myself, and the words of reality to perfect me.

Biography

Born in 1965 in Guadeloupe. Lives and works in Paris.
At the beginning of the 80's, he made his first exhibition in the Belleville workshops: he was then discovered by collectors. He exhibits at the Centre d'Art Contemporain de Mont de Marsan, at the Liliane François Gallery, at the Pierre Marie Vitoux Gallery in Paris, but also in London, Milan, Zurich, Stockholm, Belgium and Canada.
In 2000, he was awarded the Mac 2000 public prize.

In the works of Jean-Charles Quillin, the intense black, immense as a moonless night, is a source of light. Contemplating his paintings, one quickly realizes the extreme palette of his "blacks" and the phenomenal work that is underneath.

Mixing with a consummate art different powders of glass, graphite, marble, various metals to his painting, he makes the light gush out of the darkness, these so soft and magnetic lights whose effect is enhanced by an incredible work of relief, situating his paintings halfway between painting and bas-relief.

Jean Charles Quillin remains a rising value in the world of art. He is also passionate about writing and music: he has published two collections of poetry and released two albums of his musical compositions.
