MOLLARD Claude, photography, permanent artist of Galerie Capazza since 2010

« Mysteries and games of transformation.

Objects from the neighborhood transformed into mute citizens of this city, but fully citizens, who look at the photographer who surprised them.

Because he has seen in their transformation the symbol of their integration: they came from all over the world, and now they are standing in the landscape, in a great way. They look at me, I tighten the ear and I hear them: they speak French! The Origènes are no longer strangers, they are just strange. I see them and they look at me. My camera is a transformation developer. Everyone has a strong personality that comes through.

So is the Asian guy of the canal. I suspect him of leaving his tree at night to go to the pagoda, but he is mainly loyal to his place, close to the canal. There, he is a point of reference. A new city, so young, needs references/new-fathers. If he is getting old, it is with the slow rhythm of the tree where he took shape; I should say where he took face. Under cover, but still exposed to bad weather. The reference point can’t hide. He cannot hide the stigmata of some visible suffering on the surface of the skin, like this vertical scar. This is indeed the mark of an aggression: a gash in the middle of the face, as the mark of a blade that would have split the face from top to bottom, still red, swollen. The Asian guy of the canal can become a scapegoat. It is too easy to pick on a point of reference with a shape of Asian guy integrated in the city-landscape, trying to show the way to human beings who are losing the North. My photography is becoming a compassion act.

He is improving his sense of humanity. Overcoming his pain, he becomes hieratic and appears more and more under a mask shape, which is practical to escape from the fate of his transformation: from tree to face, from Asian to guide, from immigrate to citizen, and from suffering human being to ritual mask; final point of transformation that leads to transcendental. By dint of showing his face, he makes the extreme and essential traits bulging, until they create the mask. Would that be hiding? Unless he would like to show himself again, but under a new shape, a face that would give a word: so his name was born this way, the Asian guy of the canal. Mysteries and games of transformation”.
