BAILLY MAÎTRE GRAND Patrick, Photography, guest artist, La fabrique des éléments

After studying science (graduating with a Master’s degree in Physics in 1969) and ten years devoted to painting, Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand has been working with photographic tools since 1980.

His body of work, strictly analog and black and white, is characterised by a playful imagination, combined with a taste for complex technologies such as daguerreotype, periphotography, strobophotography, chemical toning, direct monotypes, rayograms, and other inventions of his own.

Eschewing the notion of perspective, his images, although highly sophisticated in their execution, have the simplicity of visual proverbs, refined like haikus.

Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand has exhibited all over the world.

His works are in the collections of prestigious museums such as the MoMa in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, the Victoria Museum in Melbourne (Australia), the Sainsbury Center in Norwich (United Kingdom), the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg, the Museet for Fotokunst in Odense (Denmark), etc.
