AYNCOMBE DANHIEUX Alistair, Ceramic, guest artist, Jardins invibles

Alistair is one of those artist-craftsmen whose work is more the result of a life marked by adventure than by traditional training or schooling. A great traveler, he sought out people, their countries, their crafts, and their ways of life. As was common in the 19th century, he recorded many of his memories in sketches, rediscovering art through sincerity. All that remained was to find an activity that would bring these experiences to life.
Pottery and everything related to ceramics offered him the best field of activity. His manual dexterity, his aesthetic sensibility, and his contacts with potters, particularly those who teach at the Cnifop in Saint-Amand, enabled him to enter almost spontaneously into this profession, which would so well meet his aspirations.

“Characterized by highly graphic lines, the work of Alistair DANHIEUX (born in 1975) evokes the work of a landscape painter or calligrapher on three-dimensional supports. A British artist based in Puisaye, his numerous travels contribute to his inspiration. In his most recent works, painting with a brush on the white surface of vases, he enhances backgrounds decorated with marbling suggesting abstract landscapes typical of drawings formed by hard stones with black lines drawn with a sure hand. His older pieces, with their rounded shapes and pure silhouettes, seem to be entirely colonized by hypnotic labyrinthine designs, continuous patterns that appear to be generated by mathematical sequences and refer to the universe of M. C. Escher.
